Behind the print

Screen printing is equal parts patience, ink and tiny miracles. Here's how every INK WINK piece goes from a scribble at my kitchen table to a hand-pulled print in your home.

From sketch to squeegee

The idea. Every piece starts with an idea, a solid sketch (or maybe 10) and selecting colors I want to use. Some characters arrive fully formed; the tomato took three notebooks.
The setup. Preparing the screens and keeping all materials (paints, squeegees, etc.) close at hand. Screens are coated, exposed and rinsed until the artwork appears like magic.
The pull. The best part is when different texture are created each time the squeegee meets the screen. One firm pull, one small wink, one print at a time.
The dry. Carefully hanging all prints to dry. Every print is unique and has its own character — tiny differences are proof a human made it.
